AERONAUTICAL ENGINEER

Global Near Space Services (GNSS) is currently seeking an experienced Aeronautical Engineer for its Star♦Tower Aerostat and Star♦Light Airship systems.

GNSS is a privately held corporation headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado, whose flagship products focus on Lighter-Than-Air (LTA) unmanned aerospace systems. GNSS operates in conjunction with its parent company, Near Space Systems, Inc., in development of these LTA platforms with missions to provide wide-area communications, broadband, and sensing devices to meet the high demands of military and commercial customers for network connectivity and ready access to vital information.

 

Position: Aeronautical Engineer (Position GNS-STR-1003-11)

 

Responsibilities

This is a lead role, from writing requirements, through to vendor interface, detail design and production, including the following key elements:

  • Perform a broad range of design and review tasks associated with the implementation of standard aeronautical techniques, procedures and/or criteria as they apply to the technical aspects of a program
  • Use own knowledge and information supplied relative to the technical or administrative aspects of the program to perform technical studies and analyses, and prepare inputs to program documentation as it relates to the aeronautical and aerodynamic areas
  • Review final documents or data deliverables for completeness and compliance.
  • Organize and maintain management files and other data deliverable files
  • Participate in and lead meetings, design reviews, and briefings
  • Identify and report on issues or related problems and potential risks, and recommend risk-mitigation
  • Work independently, under general guidelines set by Chief Engineer
  • Modify and/or adapt techniques and standard approaches to solve moderately difficult problems encountered
  • Operate lighter-than-air systems
  • Prepare system for movement or deployment
  • Set up system in the field
  • Operate portions of the system as a member of a multi-person crew
Experience

Minimum six *(6) years experience in the following:

  • Developing new products
  • Conducting studies
  • Defining system requirements and subsystem configurations
  • Identifying performance capabilities
  • Supporting system level integration
  • Performing analysis, test and evaluation
  • Using project management tools, such as Microsoft Project or equivalent
  • Must be able to produce production drawings (Solid Edge CAD, Nastran, and FEMAP experience preferable)
Education
  • BS, Engineering (preferably aeronautical or mechanical)
